The strut mount — also called a top mount or suspension strut mount — is the upper connection point between the strut assembly and the car body. It contains a rubber buffer and often a bearing, allowing the strut to rotate smoothly as you steer. On a classic car that has covered decades of use, these mounts are among the first components to deteriorate: the rubber hardens, cracks or collapses, and the bearing wears out, causing knocking, creaking or vague steering.

💡 Strut mount or shock absorber — what is the difference? The shock absorber (or strut) is the damping unit inside the assembly. The strut mount is the bracket at the top that bolts the strut to the car body. Both wear independently — replacing the shock absorber without checking the mount is a common mistake. We recommend replacing both at the same time. |
