Brake drums for Opel — Kadett, Manta, Ascona, Rekord and more
The classic and youngtimer Opels of the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s are some of the most loved cars in the European restoration scene. Whether you're keeping a Manta B on the road, restoring a Kadett C to driving condition, or maintaining an Ascona for weekend use — Tomaxclassics stocks rear brake drums for a growing range of classic Opel models, from trusted suppliers including Febi Bilstein, TRW and Mintex.
🔧 Why rear brake drums on classic Opels? All Opel classics from the Kadett B through to the early Omega A used rear drum brakes as standard. Drums are reliable, self-adjusting on most variants, and well-suited to the rear-axle loads of these lighter cars. Replacement drums are a standard maintenance item — they wear over time and should be checked alongside rear brake shoes at every brake service. |
Models we supply
Opel Kadett B (1965–1973) and Kadett C (1973–1979)
The Kadett B and C are among the most recognisable German classics in the Benelux. Both generations use a 230mm rear brake drum in standard configuration. Replacement drums for the Kadett B in particular have become difficult to source through mainstream channels — Tomaxclassics works to keep them in stock for the restoration community.
• Kadett B (1965–1973): 230mm rear drum, all variants
• Kadett C (1973–1979): 230mm rear drum, all variants
• Suppliers: Febi Bilstein, TRW
• Always check your variant — Kadett C GT/E and Rallye may have different brake packages
Opel Manta A (1970–1975) and Manta B (1975–1988)
The Manta is the icon of classic Opel ownership. The Manta B in particular — in Berlinetta, CC and GSi trim — has a dedicated following across the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. Both generations use 230mm rear brake drums. Brake drum quality matters to Manta owners who drive their cars actively; we stock from suppliers with proven OE-equivalent quality.
• Manta A (1970–1975): 230mm rear drum
• Manta B (1975–1988): 230mm rear drum — Berlinetta, CC, GSi
• Suppliers: Febi Bilstein, TRW, Mintex
• Combine with rear brake shoes for a complete rear brake service
Opel Ascona A (1970–1975), B (1975–1981) and C (1981–1988)
The Ascona shares its rear axle and brake configuration with the Manta across all three generations. Ascona A and B use the standard 230mm rear drum. The Ascona C may have a slightly different brake specification depending on engine variant and production year — always verify before ordering.
• Ascona A/B: 230mm rear drum
• Ascona C: verify your variant — drum size may differ
• Suppliers: Febi Bilstein, TRW
Opel Rekord D (1972–1977) and Rekord E (1977–1986)
The Rekord is the Opel workhorse turned classic — increasingly valued as a practical, roomy youngtimer. The Rekord D and E use larger rear brake drums than the Kadett/Manta family, typically 250–260mm depending on the engine and body configuration. The Rekord E2 (2.0 litre) is the most common restoration variant.
• Rekord D/E: 250–260mm rear drum (verify variant and engine)
• Rekord E2 2.0: most common configuration — confirm drum size
• Suppliers: Febi Bilstein, TRW
Opel Omega A (1986–1993)
The Omega A is a practical and increasingly collectible youngtimer. Base and mid-range Omega A models use rear drum brakes; the sporting GSi 24V and 3000 variants switched to rear discs. If you're unsure of your Omega A's rear brake configuration, check the service booklet or contact us with your VIN.
• Omega A base/GL/GLS: rear drums standard
• Omega A GSi 24V / 3000: rear discs — not this category
• Suppliers: Febi Bilstein, TRW
Opel Commodore B (1972–1977) and C (1978–1982)
The Commodore shares its rear axle configuration with the Rekord of the same period. Rear drums of 250–260mm are standard on most Commodore B and C variants. A solid Opel classic for the driver who wants space and presence.
🔧 Drum size guide — how to check before ordering Brake drum diameters for classic Opels vary by generation and sometimes by engine variant. The diameter is usually stamped on the inside face of the drum itself. If your current drum is too worn to read, the correct size is listed in the vehicle's service manual, or you can check with us by providing the model, year and engine code. |
