Opel Drive Shaft — Kadett D/E, Astra F/G, Vectra A/B & Corsa A/B
Looking for a drive shaft for your classic Opel? At Tomaxclassics you'll find front drive shafts for the Kadett D and E, Astra F and G, Vectra A and B, and Corsa A and B. We supply OEM-quality brands including SKF, GKN and GSP — with the correct fitment for your specific generation and variant.
⚠️ Drive shafts for front-wheel-drive Opels only Drive shafts apply to front-wheel-drive Opel models only: Kadett D/E, Astra F/G, Vectra A/B, Corsa A/B. The Manta, Ascona and Kadett A/B/C are rear-wheel drive and use a propshaft instead — see our Opel Drivetrain category for those parts. |
When does a drive shaft need replacing?
• Clicking or clunking when turning at low speed — worn outer CV joint
• Vibration at motorway speed — worn inner CV joint or shaft imbalance
• Grease splatter inside the wheel arch — torn CV boot, joint running dry
• Juddering under hard acceleration — shaft or joint at end of life
Always replace as a pair (left and right) where possible. After fitting, have the wheel alignment checked — a new shaft can affect the toe angle on some models.
💡 GM platform cross-references — more choice for your Opel Kadett E drive shafts cross-reference with Vauxhall Astra Mk2 (UK) and Daewoo LeMans/Pontiac LeMans — the same GM-S platform. Astra F cross-references with Vauxhall Astra Mk3, Astra G with Astra Mk4, Vectra A with Vauxhall Cavalier Mk3. Cross-referencing under the Vauxhall part number often returns better availability and lower prices, especially for parts originally listed only for the Opel. |
Drive shaft by model
Kadett D (1979–1984)
The first FWD Kadett. Shaft geometry is specific to this generation — do not cross with Kadett E. Parts increasingly scarce; GSP vintage range is the primary source. Confirm engine variant (1.2/1.3 N/S/SR) when ordering.
Kadett E (1984–1991)
The most common classic Kadett. Left shaft shorter, right shaft longer with intermediate shaft on some variants. GM-S platform cross-references with Vauxhall Astra Mk2 and Daewoo LeMans. SKF and GSP both cover the Kadett E well.
Astra F (1991–1998)
Successor to the Kadett E on the GM-S platform. Strongest aftermarket coverage of all classic Opels — SKF VKJC-1382 (LH) and VKJC-1415 (RH) are commonly cited. Vauxhall Astra Mk3 cross-reference applies. OPC/GSi variants use the same shaft as standard Astra F.
Astra G (1998–2004)
GM-T platform, shared with Vauxhall Astra Mk4, Holden Astra TS and Zafira A. Left shaft shorter than right on most variants. Vauxhall Astra Mk4 cross-reference widely confirmed. Astra G OPC (Z20LET) uses the same drive shaft as the standard Astra G.
Vectra A (1988–1995)
GM-E platform shared with Vauxhall Cavalier Mk3. Both GKN and SKF have strong coverage. Specify engine (1.6/1.8/2.0/2.0T CDX) as shaft dimensions can vary between variants.
Vectra B (1995–2002)
Standard 2WD variants use conventional front shafts. The 4x4 variant (available from 1996) adds rear drive shafts — always specify 2WD or 4WD when ordering. GKN and SKF cover both.
Corsa A (1982–1993)
Earliest FWD Opel city car. Parts availability is limited — Tomaxclassics stocks GSP and Löbro equivalents where available. Check with us before ordering if you have a specific variant.
Corsa B (1993–2000) & Tigra A (1994–2001)
Gamma platform shared between Corsa B and Tigra A — drive shaft cross-references between the two are documented. SKF and GKN standard coverage. Confirm body style and engine code when ordering.
Tips for ordering
• Confirm your chassis number or engine code — shaft spline count and length vary between sub-variants
• Check CV boots before ordering a complete shaft — a boot kit may be sufficient
• Replace both inner and outer boots together when either is torn
• After fitting: check for vibration at 80 km/h and have wheel alignment verified
