Steering parts for your classic Peugeot

Classic Peugeots — from the nimble 205 to the elegant 504 Coupé and the stately 604 — are known for their driving quality and robust construction. A direct, well-calibrated steering system is central to that character. At Tomaxclassics, we stock tie rods, ball joints, steering racks and other steering parts for the most common classic Peugeot models in the Netherlands and across Europe.

Our classic Peugeot steering range includes:

Tie rods and ball joints:

• Tie rod assemblies (including outer ball joint) — front and rear

• Outer tie rod ends (ball joint at the end of the tie rod)

• Ball joints (control arm to steering knuckle) — upper and lower

• Ball joint repair kits — boot, clamp and lock nut for rebuild

• Tie rod end boots (protective gaiter over the ball joint)

Steering boxes and racks:

• Steering rack complete (rack-and-pinion for later classics; worm-and-sector for older models)

• Steering rack gaiters (dust covers for the rack)

• Power steering pump (hydraulic)

• Power steering lines and hoses

Anti-roll bars and links:

• Anti-roll bars (sway bars) complete

• Anti-roll bar drop links

• Anti-roll bar bushes

Other:

• Control arm bushes

• Steering dampers (on models fitted with a damper)

• Toe adjustment nuts and lock rings

We supply parts for:

• Peugeot 205 (1983–1998) — including GTI; tie rods and ball joints differ between power-assisted and non-assisted versions

• Peugeot 304 and 305

• Peugeot 404 (1960–1989) — worm-and-sector steering; ball joint repair kits (ref. 3899.05) are still available

• Peugeot 504 (1968–1983 for EU) — ball joints and tie rods interchangeable with 505 and 604

• Peugeot 505 (1979–1992) — shares steering parts with the 504 and 604

• Peugeot 604 (1975–1987) — shares steering parts with the 504 and 505; ZF steering rack on V6 differs from four-cylinder version

• Peugeot 106 and 306

Peugeot 504, 505 and 604: interchangeable steering parts

One of the most useful details for owners of classic Peugeots: the ball joint repair kits for the Peugeot 504 Saloon (from 07/1968), 505 Saloon (from 05/1979) and 604 Saloon (from 09/1975) are in many cases identical — the Quinton Hazell QSJ894RK (Peugeot OEM ref. 364013) fits all three models. This significantly increases the availability of aftermarket parts and makes restoring these models considerably more practical.

Peugeot 205: power steering determines the tie rod type

The Peugeot 205 was built with and without power steering. The tie rod and outer ball joint for a 205 with power steering (including the power-assisted GTI) are not the same as those for a 205 without. Always check whether your 205 has power steering before ordering.

Peugeot 604: steering rack differs by engine

The Peugeot 604 was available with a four-cylinder and a V6 engine. The ZF steering rack on the 604 V6 is the same as that used on the 504 Coupé/Cabriolet with V6 — but not the same as that on the 604 four-cylinder. When ordering a steering rack for the 604, the engine type is therefore critical.
