R2 (Bilux) or H4: which bulb fits your tractor?
Many classic tractors (built before approximately 1980) are fitted with an R2 headlight, also known as Bilux. The R2 bulb has two separate filaments — one for dipped beam, one for full beam — each with its own contact pin. The Hella 1A3 003 370-041 is a typical example: a universal R2 round headlight for Deutz-Fahr, Fendt and Massey Ferguson. Newer tractors use an H4 bulb with three contact pins in a different fitting. R2 and H4 are not interchangeable — always check the bulb type of your headlight before ordering.
12V or 24V: check the electrical system
Almost all tractors run on a 12V electrical system. Trailers and self-propelled farm machinery such as combines and sprayers sometimes use 24V. Rear lights and indicators for agricultural trailers are therefore often available in a 12/24V dual-voltage version, suitable for both systems. Always check the voltage of your vehicle or trailer before ordering a bulb or lighting unit.
Rotating beacon: legally required on public roads
Agricultural vehicles wider than 2.60 metres or slower than 25 km/h are legally required to display an orange rotating or strobe beacon when travelling on public roads. This applies to tractors with wide implements, ploughs and other attachments that extend beyond the lane width. All beacons in our range are ECE-approved for legal use on public roads across the EU.
ECE approval: required for use on public roads
Lighting components for use on public roads must carry an ECE type-approval mark (E-mark, visible on the headlight or rear light housing). All Hella lighting in our range is ECE-approved and fully legal for use on public roads in the Netherlands and throughout the EU.
