Opel Drivetrain Parts — Kadett, Manta, Astra, Vectra, Corsa & Ascona

Tomaxclassics supplies drivetrain parts for classic and vintage Opels — from the rear-wheel-drive Manta and Ascona to the front-wheel-drive Kadett D/E, Astra F/G, Vectra and Corsa. Whether you need a drive shaft for your Kadett E or a propshaft for your Manta B, you'll find the correct part with the right fitment here.

⚠️ Rear-wheel drive vs. front-wheel drive — the key distinction

Classic Opels divide into two drivetrain families. Rear-wheel-drive models (Manta A/B, Ascona A/B/C, Kadett A/B/C) use a propshaft running to a rear differential — no front drive shafts. Front-wheel-drive models (Kadett D/E, Astra F/G, Vectra A/B, Corsa A/B) use two front drive shafts — no propshaft. Always confirm your model and drivetrain layout before ordering.

What's in the Opel Drivetrain category?

• Drive shafts (aandrijfassen) — FWD models only; left and right front shafts

• CV joints (inner and outer homokineten) — the flex points at each end of the drive shaft

• CV boots / gaiter kits — protect the CV joint; replace at the first sign of cracking

• Propshaft (cardanas) — for rear-wheel-drive Manta, Ascona and Kadett A/B/C

• Intermediate shafts — on some Astra and Vectra variants to equalise shaft length

💡 GM platform sharing — wider sourcing for your Opel

Opel's classic range was built on shared GM platforms — meaning drivetrain parts often cross-reference with Vauxhall (UK), Holden (Australia), Daewoo and Chevrolet equivalents. The Kadett E shares the GM-S platform with the Vauxhall Astra Mk2 and Daewoo LeMans. The Astra F/G shares with the Vauxhall Astra Mk3/4. The Vectra A shares with the Vauxhall Cavalier Mk3. Cross-referencing broadens your supplier options and often improves availability.

Classic Opel models covered

Manta A / B & Ascona A / B / C (1970–1988) — rear-wheel drive

The Manta and Ascona are the sporting and touring flagships of Opel's classic era. Both are rear-wheel drive — drivetrain parts centre on the propshaft, rear differential and rear axle. The Ascona C (1981–1988) was also available with an optional 4WD system on some variants.

Kadett A / B / C (1962–1979) — rear-wheel drive

The original Kadett generations are true classics, with the Kadett C sharing the GM T-car platform with the Vauxhall Chevette and Isuzu Gemini. All three generations are rear-wheel drive — propshaft-based drivetrain.

Kadett D / E (1979–1991) — front-wheel drive

The Kadett D brought front-wheel drive to the Opel range in 1979. The Kadett E (1984–1991) became one of the most popular cars in Europe — European Car of the Year 1985. Both use front drive shafts. The Kadett E shares the GM-S platform with the Vauxhall Astra Mk2 and Daewoo LeMans.

Astra F (1991–1998) & Astra G (1998–2004) — front-wheel drive

The Astra F succeeded the Kadett E on the GM-S platform and remains one of the most sought-after classic Opels. The Astra G moved to the GM-T platform, shared with the Vauxhall Astra Mk4 and Zafira A. Drive shaft cross-references with Vauxhall equivalents are well documented.

Vectra A (1988–1995) & Vectra B (1995–2002) — front-wheel drive

The Vectra A (GM-E platform) shares drivetrain geometry with the Vauxhall Cavalier Mk3. The Vectra B 4x4 variant adds rear drive shafts — specify 2WD or 4WD when ordering.

Corsa A (1982–1993) & Corsa B (1993–2000) — front-wheel drive

The Corsa A is the oldest FWD Opel city car — parts are becoming scarce. The Corsa B shares the Gamma platform with the Vauxhall Corsa B and Tigra A, giving a wider sourcing base.
