Ball joints for your classic Opel
Ball joints connect the control arm to the steering knuckle and are essential for accurate and safe wheel guidance. On classic Opels — cars that have been on the road for decades — ball joints are one of the most common wear items. Signs of wear include a knocking or clunking from the front wheels, play in the steering wheel, or uneven tyre wear.
At Tomaxclassics, we supply ball joints for the most common classic Opel models:
• Opel Kadett C (1973–1979) and Kadett D (1979–1984)
• Opel Kadett E (1984–1993) — including cabriolet and estate variants
• Opel Manta A (1970–1975) and Manta B (1975–1988)
• Opel Ascona A (1970–1975) and Ascona B (1975–1981)
• Opel Rekord C, D and E
• Opel Commodore A and B
• Opel GT and Olympia A
Castle nut or cotter pin type?
Classic Opel ball joints are available in two versions. The castle nut type (with a split pin / cotter pin) is standard on the Kadett C, Manta A and Ascona A. The self-locking nut type (with a flanged lock nut) is used on the Manta B and Ascona B. The taper dimensions also vary: Kadett C / Manta A / Ascona A typically use a 16.4 mm taper; Manta B / Ascona B use 16.2 mm. Not sure which version fits your car? Contact us at +31 6-18298736 or send an email — we will identify the correct part for your specific model year.
Always replace ball joints per axle (left and right at the same time). A 4-wheel alignment is required after fitting — on a restored classic Opel, wheel geometry after years of use or storage is rarely factory-correct.
