Drivetrain parts for your classic car
The drivetrain connects the engine to the wheels. On classic vehicles, the components of this system — CV boots, CV joints, drive shafts and swing axle seals — have often been working for decades and rarely replaced. During a restoration or when bringing a car back to the road, these are frequently among the first items that need attention. At Tomaxclassics, we stock drivetrain parts for a wide range of classic cars.
Our drivetrain range includes:
CV boots and drive shafts:
• CV boot kit — boot, grease, clamps and circlip in one set
• Individual CV boots — inner and outer boot sold separately
• Complete drive shafts — when the CV joint itself is damaged
• CV joints — sold individually for rebuild
• Drive shaft bolts and locking washers
• Clamps and Oetiker clips for boot retention
• CV joint grease (molybdenum disulphide grease) — required when rebuilding the joint
Swing axles and rear axle (older models):
• Swing axle seal kits — for Beetle and early Transporter with swing axle rear-wheel drive
• Rear axle bearings
• Axle flange seals
Intermediate shafts and support bearings:
• Intermediate shaft — on models where the drive shaft runs at an angle
• Intermediate shaft support bearing
CV joints or swing axle: which does your classic use?
Classic cars use two fundamentally different drive systems. Later classics — such as the Volkswagen Golf Mk1/Mk2, Scirocco and Polo — use CV jointed drive shafts, similar to modern cars. Earlier models — such as the Volkswagen Beetle, Karmann Ghia and early Transporter/T2 — use a swing axle rear-wheel drive system with a completely different seal and bearing arrangement. Always confirm which system your model uses before ordering.
